# How can I remove my backup payment method?

If you want to stop Link from charging a backup card, or remove a card from your wallet entirely, here are your options:
## Option 1: Disable backup payments entirely
This stops Link from ever retrying a failed payment on another card.
1. [Log in to your Link account](https://link.com)
1. Go to **Settings**
1. Select **Backup Payment Methods**
1. Toggle the feature to **Off**
With backup payments disabled, a declined primary card causes the subscription payment to fail. Your subscription may be interrupted or cancelled depending on the merchant's policies.
## Option 2: Exclude specific cards from being used as backup
If you want to keep the backup feature active but prevent certain cards, such as a corporate card, from being used:
1. [Log in to your Link account](https://link.com)
1. Go to **Settings**
1. Select **Backup Payment Methods**
1. Find the card you want to exclude
1. Toggle that card to **Not eligible for backup**
## Option 3: Remove a card from your Link wallet entirely
If you no longer want a card saved in Link:
1. [Log in to your Link account](https://link.com)
1. Go to **Wallet**
1. Select the card you want to remove
1. Click **Remove**
## FAQ
### Can I disable backup payments for just one merchant or subscription?
No. Backup Payment Method is a global, account-level setting. It applies to all your recurring Link transactions or none of them.
### Does disabling backups affect existing subscriptions?
Disabling backups doesn't cancel any subscriptions. If your primary card is declined and you don't have a backup card, your subscription may be impacted.
### I disabled backup payments but was still charged on a backup card. Why?
If a backup charge was already in progress before you disabled the feature, it may have completed. After disabling, Stripe makes no new transaction attempts on disabled backup payment methods. If you continue to see charges after disabling a backup payment method, contact support.
### I just added a new card. Are newly added cards automatically used as backups?
Yes. By default, all newly added cards are eligible to be used as backups. You can immediately disable it in your Backup Payment Method settings if you prefer.
