# Manage bank accounts and data connections

### What is a data connection?
A data connection is established when a business asks you to connect your bank account and share data with them using Link or Stripe. This allows the business to access your payment details and other bank account information to process payments securely, reduce fraud, assess risk, or provide financial management services.
Before connecting, the business should explain why they need this connection and what information they'll collect.
### How do I add a bank account to Link?
Link uses the saved information to accept secure and reliable payments, reduce fraud, assess risk, and for the purposes further described in our [Terms](https://link.com/terms#financial-connections-terms) and [Privacy policy](https://link.com/privacy).
To add a bank account to Link:
1. [Log in](https://app.link.com/login) to your Link account.
1. Go to **Wallet** and select **+ Bank Account**.
1. Click **Agree and Continue** to go through the authentication flow for your banking institution.
You can stop Link from accessing additional information at any time by removing the bank account from Link.
### How do I remove a bank account?
If you want to remove the access, you can disconnect a bank account via Link, or [manually submit a disconnection request](https://support.stripe.com/user/how-do-i-disconnect-my-linked-financial-account), and our team will review the request within 3-5 business days.
### Why am I being asked to verify my bank account with Link in order to disconnect?
For security and privacy reasons, we will first ask you to verify your bank account to Link before you are able to disconnect this information if the bank account is not yet already saved to Link. This step helps us to confirm you are the owner of the account and for us to securely identify the data connections that are active.
### Why can’t I find a data connection?
It can take up to 24 hours for a new data connection to appear in your account. If it still isn't showing up after 24 hours, you might have:
* **Used a different bank account**: You may have connected with the business using a different bank account. You can check the business app or reach out to the business for details on the bank account used. Once you have the account, you can manage the data connection via [Link](https://link.com/privacy).
* **Used a non-supported account type:** You can only manage checking and savings accounts via [Link](https://link.com/privacy). To disconnect non-checking/savings accounts, [manually submit a disconnection request](https://support.stripe.com/user/how-do-i-disconnect-my-linked-financial-account).
* **Used a different connection service:** You may have used another bank connection service provider (other than Link or Stripe) to connect to your bank accounts, in which case you would not be able to see or manage the data connection in your Link wallet. You can find out which connection service was used by contacting the business directly and navigating to the other connection service’s disconnection process.
* **Manually entered your bank information:** You may have manually entered your account and routing number, in which case the business has no data connection to that bank account. In this case, you won’t see this in your bank account's data connection list. You can find out if this applies to you by contacting the business directly for how your bank account was added.
