## Set up your balance
You can set up a Link balance to let your agent make purchases without requesting your approval each time. During setup, you choose the maximum amount your agent can spend per purchase without your approval.
To get started, ask your agent for a link to set up your Link balance.
Open the link and complete these steps:
1. Agree to the terms and conditions.
1. Verify your identity by providing your date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number (SSN).
1. If verification fails, provide all nine digits of your SSN. You must successfully complete this check to use this feature.
1. Set a purchase limit. This is the maximum amount your agent can spend per purchase without requesting your approval.
1. Select a payment method and add money to your balance.
## Add money to your balance
You can add money to your balance using a supported credit or debit card.
You can’t use a saved payment method if it appears grayed out. American Express, Discover, and Capital One cards aren’t supported.
If you can’t add money to your balance, try again or use a different card.
After you add money, the transaction appears in the [Activity](https://app.link.com/activity) section of your Link account.
## FAQ
### What should I do if my SSN verification fails?
If verification using the last four digits of your SSN fails, you’ll be asked to provide all nine digits.
If the second attempt fails, [contact us](https://support.link.com/contact) to request another verification attempt.
You must successfully complete the verification check to use your Link balance. There isn’t an alternative verification method.
### Where can I see my balance activity?
Transactions that add money to or use money from your Link balance appear in the [Activity](https://app.link.com/activity) section of your Link account.
### Why is my agent still requesting approvals?
If your agent is still requesting approvals, tell it to use the **skip approvals** option.
Your agent can’t skip approval for a purchase that exceeds your per-purchase limit.
### How can I change the limit for skipping approvals?
Ask your agent to update the limit. Your agent will provide a link to a page where you can change the amount.
The limit applies to each purchase. To prevent your agent from skipping approvals, set the limit to **$0**.
### How can I spend the money in my balance?
You can use the money in your balance for any purchase completed through your agent. This includes purchases that require your approval and purchases for which your agent skips approval.
### Why does my receipt say USDC?
USDC is a digital asset known as a stablecoin. It’s designed to maintain the same value as the US dollar, so one USDC is intended to be worth one US dollar.
Money in your Link balance is held as USDC, which is why your receipt refers to USDC. You don’t need to convert it before using your balance for purchases through your agent.
### Can I export the private key for my Link balance?
Yes. You can export the private key for your Link balance self-custodial wallet at any time.
Your private key provides access to the digital assets in your wallet. Keep it confidential, store it securely, and never share it with anyone or enter it on an untrusted website.
[Learn how to export the private key for your Link balance](https://support.link.com/questions/export-your-link-balance-self-custodial-wallet-private-key).
### Why does it say my setup link is invalid?
If you see an error saying that the setup link is invalid, check that:
* The amount you’re adding is **$150 or less**.
* The amount is in **USD**.
If the amount meets both conditions, ask your agent for a new setup link and try again.
### Why can’t I update my personal information?
After you set up your Link balance, your name, date of birth, and home address become read-only in the Link app settings.
To change this information, [contact us](https://support.link.com/contact) to request a personal information update.
For security reasons, significant changes might not be available while your balance contains funds.
