# Troubleshooting ID upload for identity verification

In some cases, we require an image of your government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport before completing a crypto purchase. See How do you verify my identity? for more information.
Due to the highly sensitive nature of your verification documents, Stripe only accepts documents uploaded through the widget. Don't send documents by email.
If you are running into issues uploading your ID, try the following steps:
### Confirm ID details
Confirm your ID:
* Is an accepted type.
* Isn't expired.
* Belongs to the individual whose information is being verified.
* Isn't redacted, altered, or damaged.
### Problems with the photograph
* Requirements:
 * **Capture a clear image**. Ensure images are not too dark or bright and don't have a glare. Hold steady and allow your camera to focus to avoid blurry photos. See Best practices for successful ID verification.
 * **Do not block any part of your ID document in the image.** Lay it on a flat surface to take the photo.
 * In color
 * Format must be .png or .jpg
### Problems uploading an image file
If you’re not prompted automatically, click **Other Options** and then **Upload images.**
If the upload fails, retry or try with a [different web browser](https://www.whatismybrowser.com/guides/how-to-try-a-different-web-browser).
### Check browser compatibility
ID verification is compatible with recent versions of the following browsers:
* Chrome
* Safari
* Microsoft Edge
Ensure your browser application is up to date, as our upload tools may not work properly with older versions.
### Problems accessing your computer's webcam
Check that you’ve given Stripe permission to access your webcam. If you block permissions to your camera, refer to [Chrome](https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2693767?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en), [Safari](https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/websites-ibrwe2159f50/mac), or [Edge](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4468232/windows-10-camera-microphone-and-privacy) documentation on allowing Stripe to use your webcam.
Selecting **Other Options** in the upper-right corner and then **switch to another device** to use your phone's camera. You’ll be prompted to enter your mobile phone number. We’ll send a link to your phone to start the process.
### Problems uploading via mobile phone
If you don’t receive a text message, you can use a QR code to access the link instead. Click **Other Options** in the top right and click **Barcode Link**. Use your phone’s camera or a barcode scanning app of your choice to scan the code and access the link.
