## Why was my backup card charged?
Your primary payment method was declined for a recurring payment. Common reasons include:
* Insufficient funds
* Expired card
* Card reported lost or stolen
* Bank declined the transaction
To prevent your subscription from being interrupted, Link automatically retries the payment on a different card that was enabled as a backup payment method.
## What details are in the email?
Your notification email includes:
* The merchant or subscription name
* The amount charged
* Which card was used as backup
* The date and time of the charge
* A link to manage your backup payment settings
* Which payment methods were tried and failed
## Will I be notified every time a backup is used?
Yes. You receive an email notification every time a backup payment method is charged, including details about the transaction, the specific card charged, and how to manage your settings.
## What is Backup Payment Method?
Backup Payment Method is a Link feature that helps keep your subscriptions and recurring payments active. If your primary card is declined for a subscription payment or recurring charge, Link automatically attempts the payment on another eligible card saved in your Link wallet.
## What if I didn't authorize this?
Backup Payment Method is enabled by default for Link accounts with multiple saved cards. If you'd like to disable it, you can do so at any time in your Link account settings. If you believe there is unauthorized activity on your account, contact us immediately.
